Thank you for this beautifully written memoir of your family. I never experienced anything about Christmas as a child, since my family was militantly anti-religious, and everything about Christmas was boycotted. Did I miss it? Yes, terribly. Almost everyone I knew celebrated it in some way, and I couldn't avoid the carols and Santas, the bustle in the stores etc. When I finally came to Christ, in my middle age, I had my first ever Christmas tree. It was quite small, made of plastic, bought on a whim, and placed on a shelf. I put a candle in front if it, turned on a recording of Silent Night, and burst into tears. My love, who knew my story, came to put her arms around me, and finally, finally, all was calm, all was bright.

Poignant and well-written, David. So true.
