Re. the use of scripture, I think it can be very effective when the person you are engaging states a fact that is entirely based and supported by scripture. In other words, he is the one who is in effect quoting scripture through his knowledge of the natural law. You are only adding the addendum by pointing out the source of his thinking, that he is stating biblical teachings.
Excellent article from a great book. I think another opportunity that Christians miss is the near ubiquitous presence of the bible in everything from our laws to our pop music. It's not necessary to quote scripture by book, chapter and verse when simply stating the timeless concepts of the bible in the context of societal norms will change minds. I think this is a part of what Jesus intended when He said "I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves."
