These virtues which bring us closer to God only come from God Himself. I must die to self to be filled with the love of Christ. There is no other virtue in me.

Of course. If you don’t love the sons as the Father loves them, can you truly love the Father? God, in spirit, dwells within his children as the light who lights all who come into the world. Therefore, as you treat others, even your enemy, so you treat God.
